Another appeal

I heard you when you said “it’s too new” and “we don’t know enough”.

That was six months ago.

I heard you when you said, “ Let’s wait and see how many people have reactions”. Here’s what we know as of today.

  1. Serious side effects are rare. Being a human is not for the faint of heart. There are unintended consequences to everything, even staring at your screen for too long.
  2. No one has turned into a lizard, found a chip, or been loaded with fake DNA. Everyone is out to make a buck and crazy stories always get clicks. (Side note: If the vaccine could “shed”, that would make inoculations easier to distribute)
  3. Getting the vaccine prevents serious complications and death. Would a better vaccine prevent mild symptoms and all spread? Yes. They are working on it. Instant gratification is really out of control.

Remember when we thought kids couldn’t get COVID-19, or that maybe it wasn’t that bad? Yeah, people who claimed those things were flat wrong. That’s part of the scientific process. It happens all the time. People once thought that a runny nose was caused by build-up of waste matter on the brain. We know now that it could be allergies, a bacterial infection, a sinus infection, dry air, hormonal changes, and more. A good doctor can identify the cause and prescribe effective treatment with nearly 100% accuracy.

Do you know what caused the Black Death? Thirty percent of all Europe died from botulism. They did not know how to prevent the spread of a plague that resulted in a period colloquially called “The Dark Ages”. In 2021, you can pay to have some botulism injected in your face. The journey from plague to cosmetic is the result of hundreds of years of progress. Science, math, humanities, art, religion, language all enhancing each other.

Humanity has fought plagues since the dawn of time. Viruses and bacteria and toxins are part of the world we inhabit. If you were picking a vacation home, of course you wouldn't choose a place infested with microscopic organisms that exist only to infect their hosts. We didn't get to choose. However, we do get to choose how we live on this small, blue marble.

Get the damn vaccine. More than 1 BILLION people have benefited from the vaccine. You do not have to suffer. March through May of 2020 were the worst times of our lives and if the virus keeps mutating, we will have more of those dark days.

P.S. They literally make movies about things mutating and killing everyone to critical claim. Can we skip the part where civilization comes to a screeching halt? I really like playing Animal Crossing
